Serial port
- The serial port transmits one bit of data at a time. Serial ports are commonly found on the majority of PC compatible computers. Example devices: Mouse, Modem

PS2 port
- The PS2 port is commonly known as the standard mouse port. The port is about 1 cm in diameter with seven holes. Example devices: Mouse, Keyboard, Joystick

(LPT) Parallel port
-The parallel port is a DB25 connector with an 8 bit data bus. It is most commonly used for a printer. Example devices: Printer, Scanner

SCSI port
-Small Computer System Interface (SCSI pronounced scuzzy) was completed in 1982. It is a hardware bus which allows the support of up to 8 devices. Example devices: Storage and peripheral devices

USB port
-The Universal Serial Bus port was released to the public in 1996. USB has the capability of transferring 12 Mbps, supporting up to 127 devices and only utilizing one IRQ. Example devices: Keyboards, Mouse

USB 2.0 port
-The USB 2.0 port was introduced in 2001. It is capable of supporting a transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps. USB 2.0 ports are also compatible with USB 1.0 and 1.1 devices and cables. Example devices: MP3 players, Scanners

FireWire
-FireWire is also known as IEEE 1394 or i.LINK. A FireWire port can support up to 63 devices, and can transfer information at a speed of up to 400 Mbps. Example Devices: Digital, audio, and video devices
